The James Hook Company has been both a vibrant family owned business and a beloved entity within the Boston community since 1925. Located on the Boston waterfront, this wholesale lobster and seafood retailer was well known throughout New England for their commitment to quality and service. In the early morning of Friday, May 30th, a catastrophic fire destroyed this historic landmark and left the business in disarray.
The photographs shown here are representative of the time that I spent at the Hook Company, as well as the relationships I developed with the family and their friends. These are the last negatives of a six month long documentary about the environment of the company. My heart goes out to the Hook family in their difficult times, and I am thankful for the opportunity they've given me to present this work.
My work on the James Hook Company has been featured on WGBH's Greater Boston, and in an article from Lesley University.
I have also donated 20 of his original images to the Bostonian Society.
